Life Glances

The number of experiences and emotions we can go through in a single day is amazing. Wake up. Say good morning to your family. Say goodbye to your family, wondering if this were the last time you’d see them again as you get on a plane. Get herded in crowds. Wait. Get cold. Get warm. Traverse states. Feel relieved. Feel frustrated. Feel hungry. Share your story. Wait for another plane. Observe. Wait some more. Meet a stranger. Feel uncomfortable. Feel annoyed. Share advice. Gain a friend. Traverse a few time zones. Say hello to your other family. Say hello to more family wondering if it will be the last time, but in a way very different from the same wonderment from the beginning of the day. Reminisce.

That was my day today. Absolutely amazing.

The people, places, and emotions of the day are mind-boggling when reflected upon. Several thoughts, questions, and phrases are coming to mind:

  • Live today as if it were your last.
  • How do you want to be remembered?
  • If this were your last interaction with someone, how would you feel about it?

We have all heard phrases like these. If you are like me, they have begun to seem trite, contrived, or even unrealistic to you. It’s funny how they don’t seem trite anymore when you are faced with their reality. I hope I can learn much from today so that these things never become trite again, but rather remain a reality. I wonder what other mantras, advice, etc. we have let slip from our reality.
